I thouroughly enjoyed this beautiful tale of young Will Hunting. This was my first time viewing this 90's oscar winning movie, and i was impressed! First of all i would like to state that i love the realism in this story and the acting was fabulous. I was immedaitley engaged by the fowl language and the actions of Will and his friend. The part where Will schooled that "Michael Bolton looking plagarizer" was hilarious and really opened the suspicion of Will's character. I began to pay attention to Will's behavior; fighting, drinking, mouthing-off, and questioned why this geneous was a janitor who was not using his talents, and then i learned of young Will's abusive and unstable childhood. I feel in love with Will's lady, Skylar, and her witty and fiesty personality. It was very emotional to watch the part where she told Will she loved and he said he didn't when he did because of his own inner insecurities and his feeling of not worthy or deserving of good things and love. I found the relationship between Will and his psychologist, Shawn, to be the key element in this story of self-destruction and self-awareness. Both Will and Shawn gained something from this relationship in which led them to inner-peace and moving forward. I balwed at the sceen where Shawn was persistant and kept repeating to Will that it was not Will's fault, for the abuse and neglect he has encountered in his short life, and Will pushed back, Shawn kept repeating, and this lead to the breakdown that helped Will move forward and seek love from Skylar by packing up and heading to California.
Chapter 3 in the textbook, focuses on the elements of a good story. In the film, Good Will Hunting, there were several components that made this film good including the plot, credibility, interest level, conflict, characterization and it was simple yet complex. The plot of this film was powerful, inspirational, and realistic. The tale of young Will involves the effect of what happened in a person's childhood is highly crucial to developement in later life. Will had to reach his breakthough and realize his past was not his faukt before he could move forward in his adult life to find love and happiness. I believe that this is a tale that many can relate to in the terms of a rough-childhood or even just letting go and moving forward. This is also why this film is crediible since it demonstrates factual events in life that are not perfect or fairytale.
This movie was interesting for its high level of emotions presented. This film had humour, sorrow, heartbreak, childhood issue, love, happiness, in which allowed viewers to stay engaged and interested. This story had simplistic elements like will's living quarters, job, and hangout but then also the complexity in his mind, arguements, relationship, and past.
Conflict in films is considered to be the mainspring of everystory and in this film we saw lots of conflict. Will had conflict with random people he desired to have a physical altercation with, his lady Skylar, friends, Shawn his Psychologist, The professor, and also with himself and his past. Every corner young Will took he encountered some sort of physical or mental conflict.
After viewing this film, i began to process the psycological and sociological components in this film. This was a very deep and dramatic film that left me thinking about the many people who have encountered a similar hardship as Will. When a movie leaves me with the reflection of how human lives are good and bad and how i can or can not relate, then i feel that it is a very worthy movie. The question's i have is "what happens with Skylar?" I really enjoyed the ending of the movie, with Will just driving off, but it lbe interesting to see part 2 and if things worked out for Will and Skylar. I really do not have anything negative to say about this movie. It moved me intelectually and spiritually. I also view this film as a vital tool for my OT practice, in displaying the hidden difficukties each live holds and how they influence our behavior and emotions. Great Film and great acting, I can see why this film recieved Oscar's and i will use this as a reference for my career.

Casablanca
Casablanca is an amazing tale of true love during the time of WWII. In refrenece to the film, i found several interesting points that made this movie the oscar winner that it is. First of all, this film has a very dramatic plot, in which the main character Rick is in a tough spot, he is in love with Illsa whom he rendevoused with in Paris and she left him high and dry. Illsa showed back up in his life in Casablanca with her husband and they are in need of the letters in which Rick holds to leave for America and escape the Germans. My favorite scene in this film, is after Rick reunites with Illsa at his club, and he is drinking alone, and makes the refrence of "Why of all the bars does she show up at mine," i thought this scene was a classic example of true heartache. I found an interesting twist in the story, when Illsa pulls a gun on her ex-love Rick for not giving her the letters, for the reasons being the pull of Illsa love for her husband and Ricky. This film was a heartbreaking and dramatic in which Ricky and Illsa had to battle between love and letting go. Casablanca's love tale is a great refrence for live's expreiences in which may find ourselves being in Rick or Illsa's shoes.
Casablanca, in refrence to the chapter 1, is quite unique. This film is classic with black and white, few setting locations, inspirational music choices, and very little action. The characteristic of this film that stuck out to me in terms of uniqueness, is the lack of action scences and large amount of conversations that took place. Most films in my lifetime, are big hits for the intense scences, comedy, or bizzare plot. This movie is a simple setted and acted film that displays a true life love conflict. My response to this film could be described as simple yet elegant. I felt that the actors were outstanding in portraying this film filled with contradicitions and challenges. The ending clip, after Rick tells Illsa that she belongs on the plane with her husband, with the two men walking in the fog, and the statement of "this looks like the beginning of a beautiful relationship," was an influetial and unforgettable way to end the story.
Chapter 2 in the textbook is concentrated on the focus and theme. The plot of this movie carried two complicated issues; love and German Nazi War. The time setting of this film was to display how events occured at this time in the World when Germany Nazi's were overtaking Europe, specifically Paris in this film, and how people where forced to be refugees in seek hiding until they reached America. There was a part in this movie, where the French were singing "Vive La France," and there were tears in their eyes, and this was an infuental moment that allowed the viewers to see what emotions were felt at this time in History. The other plot to this film was the classic love story and how Rick had to show his love by Illsa by keeping her safe and encouraged her to be with her husband. Chapter 2, also states to focus on the emotions. In this film, i felt that Rick's character really emphasized the despair and bitterness towards his love for Illsa. He quoted " I wouldnt bring up Paris, it is poor salesmanship,"and this statement with his tone showed his sarcasm and hurt.
In the beggining of the film, Casablanca, i was interested and excited to see this film. I felt that it had a strong beginning, with the globe and was nicely set up to explain what was going on. Throughout the movie, i stayed engaged but my mind did wonder with all the "man" conversation. I was intrigued by the love story and how it was kept a suspsicion as to what happened between Rick and Illsa in Paris. I enjoyed the music choices for the film and was touched when the French were all signing and crying to reflect I think that the director did an amazing job with materials provided at that time. My personal preference would to have a liitle more action involved in this film versus the multiple long conversations that somewhat drug out longer than needed. I really enjoyed this film and it left me with the feel good feeling about the story and how it ended.

On the Waterfront
In refrencing the film, on the Waterfront, i found a few parts to be very interesting. First topic i would like to discuss is the films concept of a 1940's mobb. I first noticed the clothing, perticularly, the wide brimmed hats and long coats, and my thoughts if a 40's style mobb was similar to the one's presented in the film. I found it ammusing that this film involved so many physical fights with cigarettes in everyone's hand. I felt that their was emotion displaced in this film, but i found it somewhat disturbing the lack of tears and clamness when the two main characters, Eddey and Terry, brothers where murdered, Joey and Charlie. If that were my brother i would be hysterical and this intense emotion is much more presesnt in current films. I thought it was a cute love story. One of my favorite parts was when Terry came into Eddey's apartment and they were argueing and she stated she did not want to see him, they were pushing, and then they locked lips and the fight was over. The funniest part of the film was when Terry refered to Eddey as a "fruitcake" which indicated she was sweet, and today that term has an entirely different meaning.I felt this was a great film with a great moral to the story; stick up for what is right and don't be afraid to start the trend. Justice and Freedom are the purpose for the rebellion.
In refrence to chapter 1, this film is unique and carries the dramatic and classic feel. This film was in 1940, so it has a low standard of technology, but i feel the simplicity of the black and white and band music, is what makes this film so engaging and timeless. In refrence to chapter 2, it is stated to focus on the plot, emotional effect, character, ideas. The plot of this film is to demonstrate the intensity of mobb life and the effect on all others of the community and hiw they are affected. Everyone fears the mobb and is afraid to "rat" them out. One brave soul, Terry, sticks up to them and changes the way things are. The emotional effect, i felt, was bland in some areas and very dramatic in others. I felt that the saddness/mourning emotions were not intense and lacked. In regards to anger, i saw alot of intense anger related emotions, such as physical foghting, yelling, and facial expressions. The two main characters were Eddey and Terry. Eddey was a sweet yet outspoken women who was demanding justice. Terry was a good man in the wrong crew who decided to go against his fear and do what was the right/christain thing. The idea of this story was involved love, moral implications, and social problems.
In reflection to the film, i will start out by stating that i was not excited to watch this film, but it turns out that it was not that bad. I struggled with gaining interest in the beginning due to the lack of emotion presented in response to Joey's death, from his family to the random bystander. I felt that it was not real because that is not the response of a murder. I did however like how immediately their was a brawl, and several more present in the film. I had a few of women and their lack of speaking rights in the 40's, so this brought interest in Eddey's character. She did not listen to the men and she spoke her words and got involved with justice for her brother's murder. I thought that Terry was a very attractive 40's male and i thouroghly enjoyed when he went down to Mr. Friendly's meeting house and challenged him and then the workers stood behind him. I felt that the moral of this story was great for that time and also life lesson's in general. I felt suspense when you could tell it was going to be a dramatic part and then the drums or trumpet kicked in. I like how the director portayed this film and the scenerios involved, and also i don't feel there was an option for mush more back in those days. This film was also an excellent source for the 40's and it was interesting to see how times and behaviors changed. For example, it floored me how everyone had a cigarrette in their hand- ewww! It was a simple film but it would not have been as classic andy otherway. This film proved by bais wrong that oldies can be goodies!
