Good Will Hunting

I thouroughly enjoyed this beautiful tale of young Will Hunting. This was my first time viewing this 90's oscar winning movie, and i was impressed! First of all i would like to state that i love the realism in this story and the acting was fabulous. I was immedaitley engaged by the fowl language and the actions of Will and his friend. The part where Will schooled that "Michael Bolton looking plagarizer" was hilarious and really opened the suspicion of Will's character. I began to pay attention to Will's behavior; fighting, drinking, mouthing-off, and questioned why this geneous was a janitor who was not using his talents, and then i learned of young Will's abusive and unstable childhood. I feel in love with Will's lady, Skylar, and her witty and fiesty personality. It was very emotional to watch the part where she told Will she loved and he said he didn't when he did because of his own inner insecurities and his feeling of not worthy or deserving of good things and love. I found the relationship between Will and his psychologist, Shawn, to be the key element in this story of self-destruction and self-awareness. Both Will and Shawn gained something from this relationship in which led them to inner-peace and moving forward. I balwed at the sceen where Shawn was persistant and kept repeating to Will that it was not Will's fault, for the abuse and neglect he has encountered in his short life, and Will pushed back, Shawn kept repeating, and this lead to the breakdown that helped Will move forward and seek love from Skylar by packing up and heading to California.
Chapter 3 in the textbook, focuses on the elements of a good story. In the film, Good Will Hunting, there were several components that made this film good including the plot, credibility, interest level, conflict, characterization and it was simple yet complex. The plot of this film was powerful, inspirational, and realistic. The tale of young Will involves the effect of what happened in a person's childhood is highly crucial to developement in later life. Will had to reach his breakthough and realize his past was not his faukt before he could move forward in his adult life to find love and happiness. I believe that this is a tale that many can relate to in the terms of a rough-childhood or even just letting go and moving forward. This is also why this film is crediible since it demonstrates factual events in life that are not perfect or fairytale.
This movie was interesting for its high level of emotions presented. This film had humour, sorrow, heartbreak, childhood issue, love, happiness, in which allowed viewers to stay engaged and interested. This story had simplistic elements like will's living quarters, job, and hangout but then also the complexity in his mind, arguements, relationship, and past.
Conflict in films is considered to be the mainspring of everystory and in this film we saw lots of conflict. Will had conflict with random people he desired to have a physical altercation with, his lady Skylar, friends, Shawn his Psychologist, The professor, and also with himself and his past. Every corner young Will took he encountered some sort of physical or mental conflict.
After viewing this film, i began to process the psycological and sociological components in this film. This was a very deep and dramatic film that left me thinking about the many people who have encountered a similar hardship as Will. When a movie leaves me with the reflection of how human lives are good and bad and how i can or can not relate, then i feel that it is a very worthy movie. The question's i have is "what happens with Skylar?" I really enjoyed the ending of the movie, with Will just driving off, but it lbe interesting to see part 2 and if things worked out for Will and Skylar. I really do not have anything negative to say about this movie. It moved me intelectually and spiritually. I also view this film as a vital tool for my OT practice, in displaying the hidden difficukties each live holds and how they influence our behavior and emotions. Great Film and great acting, I can see why this film recieved Oscar's and i will use this as a reference for my career.
