Amelie is a French romantic comedy that intales the story line of a socially awkward young lady. Amelie, who focuses on bettering the lives of random people around her, and through this. she discovers her own need to find happiness and a companion. Amelie's character was of one who was very shy, intellegent, good-hearted, yet she is kind of a weird mystery. Amelie found a hidden box filled with some man's childhood memrobilia, and she decided to track him down, Instead of confront the gentlemen face to face, she leaves it in a phone booth. The gentlemen and Amelie ended up in the same bar after this incident, where the gentlemen had a realization that life is short and it is time to rekindle his relationship with his daughter, and this was the point that gained Amelie's interest in helping others and their relationships. The part that led me to really enjoy Amelie's character, despite her shyness, she led that blind man through the market and described every visual component in which they were passing. There was alot of really hilarous adult humor in this film which i believe was the primary reason that this film was so amuzing. I also felt that the plot of this story was intriguing with the multiple people involved and their weird querks, like the stuffed dog and catdish on the floor. The scene where Amelie got Georgette and the customer together and they went to the backroom had me laughing hysterically. This film was unique, busy, and very different from any other film i have ever watched.
Chapter 4 in the textbook focuses on the visual design of a film. I was unfortunate to not have a clear visual of this film Amelie due to my netflix did not arrive and i was forced to watch it in parts on youtube. I can however discuss the setting of determing and reflecting of the character. Amelies character is kind of busy and unique and i feel that all of her surroundings fit her. The phone booth was a popular site for her to watch people and this phone booth is considered a private area that is used by many people and, to me, Amelie is a person that touches many others in a quite and private manner. The bar where Amelie worked was not a large facility and it seemed to be cluttered and that emphasizes the business in Amelie's mind and the people involved in it. It seemed that Amelie's setting was vintage in fashion and older and rustic and this worked well for this film.
Chapter 5 discusses cinematography and specail visual effects. In the film Amelie, i saw some objective and indirect- subjective viewpoints of the film. I felt that this film had powerful composition, with lots of movement sharpness of focus, dramatic arrangement of people and objects, and background in motion. I can not really elaborate on details because i had a very fuzzy copy of this film but what i mentioned above is my best observation of the visual effects.
Chapter 6 is concenrated on editing in a film. I felt that Amelie was very well put together and I am positive that there quite a bit of editing done to this film. It is very interesting to see how much editing intails for a film.
I really enjoyed this foreign film. I had a little difficulty getting use to reading the subtitles, but i ended up really enjoying it and became alot more involved with watching the character's brhaviors to also signify what was going on. I found this film to be very interesting, querky, and hilarious. I will probably watch this film again because i felt like i would gain more insight with another view, because i did find myself concentrating on reading the subtitles than processing what was going on. Very great film experience.
