I have always heard of the film Graduate but this was my first opportunity to watch this flick and i must say i was pretty impressed. I have also heard refrences to mrs. Robinson and never quite understood the realization of her character. I though this film had a very interesting plot. I loved Dustin Hoffman's character, Benjamin, and his mannerisims. I laughed at his attempt of despiar and denial of Mrs. Robinson but was easily manipulated to do what she said, example being in the beginning when Benjamin dropped Mrs. Robinson off at home and she completely coaxed him into coming in the house, took her clothes off, and despite Benjamin's uncomfortableness he continued to listen to her and stay in the house. I found it to be an interesting twist in the affair between Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson and then with her daughter. I liked when Benjamin announced his enagagement to Elaine to his parents and after all their excitement he said he hadn't asked her yet and actually she hated him. I thought this was a comical romance with a spectacular ending. The music in this film was also a huge hit factor for me.
Chapter 7 in the textbook focuses on the color perspective of a film. Although i did not have a crisp clear copy, i was able to recognize some concepts that the chapter discussed. This film was made in the 1960's. The color that actually sticks out to me the most in the film was the presence of white. The white color was in the many affair scences in the hotel with white sheets and underclothes, and at the end with the white wedding and gown. The presence of blue really stuck out for me due to the several scenes in the pool. This film was not very flashy with lots of bright colors but rather a more simple hue of colors.
Chapter 8 and 9 discuss sound and music. This film was more of a simple sound effect. There was not alot of loud sounds, conversation, or music. The focus was on the story and not the intriging sound effects that we see in most films now days. I absolutely love the music in this film. I love Simon and Garfunkel and i know understand the refrence to Mrs. Robinson in their song. I felt the music carried alot of emotion but left a peaceful and pleasant feel.
I really enjoyed this film. I really like the refrence to being this big college graduate who finds himself undecided on what to next and this uneasiness leads him to a bad situation in which leads him to a good situation. I thought this had great casting and this was a bizzare situation but this could very easily be a real life scenerio. I really enjoyed the ending, where we see them on the bus with blank stares. I was really shocked when Elaine forgave Benjamin on their first date for taking her to a strip joint and how they feel in love that night. I would not have been so forgiving but it definately made a very interesting story.
