Momento was quite an elaborate and deep film. This film kind of reminded me of Inception, all over the place, and the second you think you know where the story is going, it does a complete 180 degrees and leaves you lost again. At first i was really confused when the screen shifted, in deciding if this scene was to demonstrate the past or the present, but i noticed a somewhat pattern in the switch in white and black and color. I found this story to be very unique and interesting. I felt frustrated for Lenny, with his life and how he had to use photo's and write notes. I did not understand the reason for Sammy's character until the end, atleast i think i get it. I still am not sure if he was making this "condition" up or if it was an unfortunate situation gone very bad.I still am unaware if he did kill Kenny or not, and if he was making up his conditon, what cause hin so? Very interesting film and i need to watch it agian to understand what really happened with Lenny.
Chapter 4 discusses visual design. In this film, the most obvious, is the switch from color screen to the black and white setting. I was a tad confussed by this in the beginning but then realized the switch symbolized the past and the present. I think this really added to the film and this was probably the best technique to show the constant switch in time setting and also awake and dreaming. I felt that the settings where limited and in simple places, so the focus was not on defintion or details of the surrounding, and this worked well because this story is about one man, and it is a mystery and complex, rather than gore, guns, and flashy lights.
Chapter 5 focuses on the cinetography and special visual effects. Viewers experienced mostly a subjective point of view, since we were able to see what Lenny was seeing most of the time, but there was also the other point of views, but i mainly felt that it was subjective. I felt that there was powerful composition in this film. It seemed like the backgrounds in Lenny's settings added to certain characteristics in Lenny physical apprearence and building features. The lighting and color was a huge factor in this films success and accomplishment in demonstrating Lenny's life. The black and white gave it depth and simplicity yet the color screen added light and worked well in the high action moments.
Chapter 6 discusses editing. I can just about imagine the many hours of editing this film took. The placement of each scene was crucial to this movies plot. I believe that it was intended for viewers to be confussed but still be able to follow. Editing is the reason that this believe could be made true. Editing is very crucial to every film, but especially this one.
In reflecting on this film, my opinion is that it was messed up but very worth while to see. I do feel that you have to be ready for this time of movie that involves alot of thinking and multitasking is not an option, because it is so intense and easy to get complete lost. This film had me squinting my eyes and kept the wheels turining in my head. Great film and i will need to watch it again to see if i can understand certain important parts more clearly. Very interesting and glad i had to watch it.
